Candidate: Marvin Bainter Position Sought: State Representative, 91st District
1) Why are you seeking this office?
I am running for this office for the third time. I am running for this office because it's about time for someone to get elected that's just a plain common working person. One who feels the burden of high taxes and the rising cost of living.
2) Why do you believe you are qualified for this office?
My qualifications are that I believe instead of more taxes maybe we should look into changing some of the ways the government is being run. Seems to me that our elected officials are not effected by the high taxes and cost of living like the majority of voters that put these people in office to watch out for us.
3) If you're the incumbent, what have been your significant accomplishments during your term? If you are a challenger, what do you believe have been the significant disappointments of the incumbent, and how would your term in office be different?
4) Have you ever owned or managed a business? If yes, please explain.
I have been in the trucking business over thirty years. Everyday I feel the high cost of running a business in Illinois. We are a small business and have felt the increasing taxes our state has put on this industry. Big business is putting so many small businesses out of business and we need to find ways to help the small guy.
5) What to you believe are the major issues facing voters in the district?
The major issues in the district are the high cost of energy and trying to keep good jobs in the area. Energy cost are sky rocketing and so many people are having a hard time paying these cost.
6) What do you believe are the major issues facing businesses in the district?
7) What role should the State of Illinois play in economic development? How do you propose to expand and attract businesses to the district? How do you propose to stop businesses from leaving Illinois?
8) Do you support the continued construction of Veterans Drive in Pekin? Why or why not? If elected, how will you help with this project?
9) What are the top three financial issues facing the State of Illinois? How would you address those issues?
To address the financial issues of Illinois I would have to say I don't much about them because up to the election I have not had to deal with the state's problems just my own financial issues. If elected, I will deal with these issues as though it was my own business. I know this doesn't sound good for someone who wants this office, but I will not try to baffle anyone on something I am not real up on.
10) Does the State of Illinois need additional revenues? Why or why not? If yes, what new revenue sources will you support?
Do we need more revenues? When you spend as the government does, I would say yes. I hope more taxes aren't the answer. We seem to tax about everything.
11) Does the State's budgeting process need to be improved? Why or why not? If yes, what will you do to improve it?
Again with the budgeting process, I have not had the chance to sit in on one, so I can't really say if it needs improvement.
12) Does the State of Illinois need a Capital Budget? What should the priorities of a Capital Budget include? Where will the funding come from for a Capital Budget?
13) Do you believe Illinois' businesses currently pay their "fair share" of taxes?
I don't know about other businesses, but my business is paying their share of taxes and licenses that have skyrocketed in the last few years.
14) If elected, what would be your top three priorities?
If elected, I would like to make sure our kids have the best education possible, to do something about the high energy costs, and health care especially for the children and the elders.
I know my answers aren't what many people want to hear from someone that want this office, but I have worked hard my whole life and my family are hard working people and we need someone that isn't a puppet and will honestly try to help our district and the people that put him there.
