Chamber Committees
Marketing Committee

Our members and the community expect us to be the information source for potential visitors, new residents, and new businesses.  The Chamber accepts that role and produces high-quality promotional materials for the requests we receive from outside the area.  However, responding to information requests is a passive form of promotion.  We also need to reach out and proactively market the Pekin area to those outside of the region.

Strategic Plan Responsibility

Goal 2:  Stimulate community growth

Strategy:  Marketing  Proactively market Pekin as a great place to live, work, shop and play.

Committee Focus:  Develop high-quality promotional materials, strategies, tools and tactics to market Pekin.  Also develop sponsorships and revenue sources to promote the marketing effort.

Examples of Activities

  • Proactively promote Pekin as a great place to live
  • Maintain an enhanced section of the website, featuring relocation information from the Pekin What A Pleasant Surprise campaign
  • Produce a Pekin resource magazine and official city map
  • Develop new opportunities to promote the Pekin area
  • Develop a marketing plan for the Pekin area

Authority:  Makes recommendations to the Board of Directors.  Can develop additional activities to support the above strategies.  Can develop sub-committees or ad hoc committees to address specific committee activities.

Budget:  The 2008 budget includes a net expense of $0. It is anticipated the committee will generate all of the funds they need to support their marketing efforts, including the "Pekin, What a Pleasant Surprise."

Schedule:  The Marketing Committee is scheduled to meet on the third Thursday of each quarter (Jan, Apr, Jul, Oct) at 7:30am at the Pekin School District 108 Board Room.

The Executive Committee will also evaluate the effectiveness of the strategies and activities. On at least an annual basis, this committee will be evaluated on:

  • Quality and quantity of marketing activities
  • Quality and quantity of promotional materials
  • Financial performance, compared to the budget
