I was teaching a small group of students to count sets of coins to $1.00. Throughout the week we were using manipulatives and worked on counting a given set or developing a set of coins to equal a certain amount. At the end of the week, I like to play a game with the students that relaxes them but also still keeps them thinking about what we have worked on all week. At the end of the week I used the "Counting Money" app. This app was great because the students were not only excited about using the iPads, but also were given an amount of money and needed to use the correct amount of coins. This app opened many different teaching opportunities for me, depending on the student. Some students were using only pennies, so I was able to expand on their strategies. I even noticed some students counting back when they realized they had too much money! It was a great way to see what they know and also see where I can take them next with money. |
