Security
Residents of Pekin can feel safe knowing they are protected and cared
for by some of the best police officers and rescue personnel in the area.
Police Department
Pekin’s citizens are protected by 53 police officers, including
six investigators, two K-9 units, one D.A.R.E. officer, one Crime Prevention
officer, one School Liaison officer, and 42 patrol officers.
Advanced Medical Transport (AMT)
AMT is a not-for-profit community organization that provides ambulance
services in Central Illinois. Defined by three core service areas (Emergency
Paramedic Service, Scheduled Ambulance Service and Mobile Intensive Care
Service), AMT is committed to taking EMS to a higher level through innovative
thinking and responsiveness to the community as a whole. AMT is one of
only 70 ambulance providers nationwide to be accredited by the Commission
on Accreditation of Ambulance Services.
Fire Department
The Pekin Fire Department is a 49-member, multi-service emergency
response, emergency medical service, and life safety organization. All
members
are full-time employees of the City and are trained in the latest
emergency medical technologies, including the basic defibrillator
level. In fact,
many of the firefighters are further certified at the intermediate
or paramedic level. Pekin also possesses a Hazardous Materials and
Technologies Rescue Team.
In addition, citizens of Pekin enjoy a number of services provided by
the City, including:
- Groundwater Guardian Team
- Recycling Program, with weekly curbside pickup
- Garbage, with weekly curbside pickup
- Yard Waste, with weekly curbside pickup between April and
January
- Designated snow routes
- Daily bus service, including service to the Peoria County
Courthouse and Illinois Central College
