| Day
2:
It was a long one. We were up and pulled out
of the hotel at 7am EST. Most only got
about 4 hours sleep. We arrived in Titusville
at 5pm EST and then went over to the Kennedy
Space Center by 6:15pm. We were driven, by bus,
to a reception at the Saturn V Rocket Complex.
We ate food, saw films, and visited with friends
and relatives of the astronauts. Then, we were
given a surprise. They shuttled us out to launch
pad 39B where we got a upclose look at the shuttle.
We were only about 300 yards away. The last
time NASA did this was when Ron McNair, the
first black astronaut in space, went up in the
shuttle. This is the same man that was killed
in the Challenger in 1986 which is over 12 years
ago. It was unbelievable. We also were
told that the planes buzzing over us were Scott
and the commander doing practice touch and goes
in their aircraft. The kids were really awestruck!!
