Day 4: The launch went off without a hitch today. We left for the launch site at about 10:15am and arrived at 10:45am. It was a lot of waiting for the shuttle to blast off. The kids kept themselves busy by interviewing Scott's guests and people that actually had a hand in Neurolab. I could sense the kids (and adults) getting more anxious as the hour grew closer. Finally it was T minus 10 seconds. Then at 6 seconds I could see the engines fire. Then, through the cloud I could see the shuttle clear the tower. The engines were burning and everyone was cheering. What a beautiful sight. All the work that the teachers, staff, students, parents, and community put into this effort was paying off in high dividends. More cheers as the shuttle was getting higher. A lump comes to throats and some tears are shed. Scott is finally realizing his dream. Way to go Scott! Way to go Pekin!!
