Monk's In Robes!!
The life of a monk was not easy they went to Matins at 2:00 in the morning to pray, after that they performed daily tasks they were taking care of with silence. They also provided food, money, valuables, they even taught the poor, and medical care for the poor. Also, they translated, copied, and read passages in the bible for work. The monks also raised bees for their honey, made food, and made beer. Like Priests monks couldn't marry. Monks also monks wore a plain brown robe with a plain robe belt, they didn't wear shoes! The monks had rules set down by St.Benidict in the sixth century some of those rules are The monks have to stay in the monastery for life, they couldn't own any land, and they couldn't become entangled in society. Monks chanted things from the bible this was called Gregorian chant singing was not allowed. Monks were not paid but they were provided with a place to sleep and food to eat but they must help make the food. The schedule for the monks was, Matins at 2:00 A.M., praying and chanting at 5:00 A.M., Mass from 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Mass was gardening and work, Vespers at 5:30 P.M., Compline at 6:00 P.M. sleep at 6:30 P.M. The monks lived in the monastery for life and they hardly ever had any contact outside the walls of the monastery. Some of the interesting information is the monks went to the church eight times daily in a routine of worship that includes chanting and resisting prayers from Mass. The monks took vows of poverty, chasity , and obedience to their leaders. Monks and priests chanted the daily mass, some churches even had an organ, and bells there was also an instrument called an organinstrum or Hurdy Gurdy, it was a two person instrument, one person turned the crank and the other played the strings.
