How
important is the communication media to our culture?
Are we aware of the history of that media?
Can we overcome our apprehension of appearing
before
an audience?
Instructors
Debbie Denning and Dave Cole presented a summer
camp for fourteen students from Pekin, Illinois.
In this camp the kids learned about the history
of television and radio. They heard tapes
of such radio and vaudeville performers as Bob
Hope, Orson Welles, Abbott and Costello, Jack
Benny, Red Skelton, and many others. Historic
television clips were shown and their impact emphasized.
The
students also wrote and performed. Poetry
and dramatic readings were done by all.
Speakers
included: WMBD TV anchorman Bob Larson; magician
and performer Grant Golden; WMBD radio talk show
host Greg Batton; and WEEK TV web page designer
Bill Shaner.
Every
child had the opportunity to use a variety of
the school district's technological hardware including:
computers, software, digital cameras, and scanners.
