You're
the Detective
Angie
Appell and Kelly Herron
In camp
this week, we got to be super sleuths! We observed
a crime scene, developed a crime scene map, investigated
suspects, and eventaully solved the crime. We solved
the crime using various forensic testing practices including:
testing the victim's drink (soda pop) for any abnormal
substances, testing for fingerprints, hair samples, items
left at the scene, footprints, etc... We listened to a
speaker from the Crime Lab in Springfield give us advice
on how to do our testing. During
the week we were involved indifferent detective type
mysteries. We did a laserdisc mystery on a missing
novelist. We used cards to help solve a crime
using the elements of setting, time, motive, weapon,
and suspects. We read a "clue" mystery then put
together a puzzle to give us input as to the identity
of the culprit.
We
also explored mysteries this week through things like;
internet searches, Carmen Sandiego detective work, Encyclopedia
Brown mysteries, etc...
Finally,
we created our own detective mystery using pictures
from Chris Allsburg's Mysteries of Harris Burdick.
(we looked at the pictures and created a mystery from
it) Overall, we have had some great practice solving
crimes and playing detective!
