Where we are:

• Technology committee exists.
• Staff is unfamiliar with School Vista.

• Technology committee needs to be smaller and more active.
• Staff wants to have greater knowledge of School Vista

• Technology committee will be comprised of ’96 and ’97 pilot teachers and Learning Center teacher and Writing to Read teaching assistant.
• During school improvement days in September and October tech committee will familiarize itself with School Vista bookshelf.

• Pilot teachers need release time to preview School Vista and align it with the curriculum.

Learning Community

 Where we are:

• Internal – Staff is not using e-mail regularly.
• External – We have minimal e-mail correspondence with parents.

• Internal – Staff will use e-mail regularly.
• External – Staff will exchange and use e-mail addresses with parents.  Parents will be aware of school web pages.

• Internal – Staff will check e-mail twice daily.  Principal will e-mail FYI.
• External – Parent e-mail addresses will be placed on registration forms.  Reminders about school website will be given in monthly newsletters

• Internal – School computers will be available to everyone.  A hard copy of FYI will be given to those who do not have computers.
• External – Parents need as e-mail address.  School computers will be available to parents on Wednesday night open lab.

Where we are:

• There is no computer management of information.

• We want to phase in School Vista as our management tool.

• We need release time for staff training.

• We need the assistance of the technology coordinators during this release time.

Infrastructure

Where we are:

• We still have baseband operation with frequent freezes and no printing capabilities in classrooms.

• We want all teaching staff to use School Vista on ATM.  We need two other computers for the ’96 pilots.  One 2nd grade classroom needs to come on board now since the teacher is an ’98 pilot and does not have 5 computers on ATM network.
• Video conferencing
• Voice Telephones in each classroom
• Automated lunch program that interfaces with the library automation system

 

• We need to give learning center/writing to read lab time for the second grade to do the School Vista Writing and More Program.
• Secure grant funding

• Second grade class will use learning center/writing to read lab.
• Six new computers will be purchased for the Writing to Read lab.
• New Writing to Read  and Writing and More Manuals need to be purchased.

• We want to offer free introductory computer classes for Sunset Hills School parents.
• We want to advertise open labs for students with their parents.
• We want to plan a grade level technology handout for parents so they know the technology skills that are taught at each grade level.

Actions necessary to get there:

• We need to develop a handout for parents on grade level technology.
• We need to publicize computer classes and open labs at Back to School Night.

• We will use time on Retreat Day to develop the technology handout.
• We will seek financial resources/grants for instructors for parent technology classes.
