WILSON and WASHINGTON 2000 SITE VISIT

February 10 and 11, 1999

Health Bridge Fitness Center

  • Cement formed exterior panels (matched accent bricks)
  • Lower wall cover (vinyl)
  • Corner guards
  • Ok moveable walls (it took two people to move)
  • Carpet squares
  • Use of color accents in floor
  • Entry tiles
  • Drape around therapy table
  • Recessed canned lighting that dimmed and egg carton lighting

 

 

Prairie Ridge High School

  • Glass-walled cornered stairwells
  • Textured non-slip steps
  • Auditorium (textured walls)
  • Turn around bus drop-off in rear

 

 

Westfield School (K-8)

  • Stage with ramp
  • Space for a stage between the gym and all-purpose room
  • Great moveable walls (seal or stabilizer at the bottom, moved easily by a teacher)
  • Glass-walled cornered stairwells
  • Vestibule in entryway to provide security through office
  • Glass panels on side of door

 

 

Schaumberg Township Library

  • Bowl light fixture reflecting light up and down
  • Terrazzo floor in entry and "lobby"
  • Great student area with storybook character setting life-size. Molded plastic sets. Many places to sit
  • Computers
  • Recessed lighting outside under canopy
  • Wooden benches
  • Indirect lighting

 

Barrington North Elementary School

  • Locker system we liked
  • Pod arrangement of classrooms
  • Front door security arrange with doors locking after bell and all traffic through office
  • Bathrooms set up outside pods
  • Tile in hallway and carpeting in classrooms
  • Poor acoustics in gym and great room
  • Glassed hallways at the end of the corridors
  • Acoustics ignored - very obvious

 

Clearmont Elementary School

  • Great ideas for use of space (bright colors red, yellow, blue)
  • Four or five computers arranged around a built-in unit
  • Glassed rooms around the library part for the lab
  • Sitting space designed for students to read together (wood and mesh-like material?)
  • Moveable walls - EMCO acceptable quality

 

 

Lincoln Way East High School

  • Auditorium
  • Name plates
  • Great sound room

 

 

Zion Nuclear Power Plant

  • Interesting use of displays for electricity
  • Some exposed piping
