WASHINGTON 2000 ACTION TEAM MEETING - JANUARY 26, 1999

 

  • DESIGN CHARET: The team and staff responded favorably to this event that was held last week in the "wooden gym."
  • BOARD OF EDUCATION UPDATE: The team and staff were invited to review the work from the design charet and attend informational Board Meeting scheduled for Thursday January 28, 1999.
  • LOCATION- District Conference Room
  • TIME – Design Review 6:30 P.M. Board of Education Report 8:00 P.M.

(Please plan attending these two meetings if at all possible)

 

  • CHICAGO AREA FIELDTRIP SPONSERED BY GUY (Wilson & Washington Teams)
  • WHY: Review Systems, Finishes, Fixture Product, and furnishing
  • WHEN: February 10th and 11th
  • TIME: TBA
  • WHO: Bonnie Aimone, Deb Smith, and possibly Karen Metz

 

QUESTIONS FOR THE VISIT

  • Could we please view the sound proof movable walls?
  • How is security handled in other districts?
  • What type of air-conditionings and heating systems do they use?
  • What are "Smart Walls" and could we please see one in use?
  • Are there classroom doors that stay open and close during a fire alarm that we could look at?
  • Is carpeting used in other intermediate classrooms and what is the life expectancy of the carpeting?
  • What type of public address system is available for our school?
  • What is the best type of dry erase boards available and how long does the average board last?
  • Could we view classroom lighting that would look good in our historic school?
  • Is there classroom storage available that would function in the historic classrooms of Old Main?
  • Could we look at street lockers that would be used to replace the old lockers in Old Main?

 

THE TEAM MAY SUBMIT ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS TO GUY CAHILL BY JANUARY 29, 1999.

 

OTHER TEAM CONCERNS:

  • Sound proofing of classrooms and gymnasium
  • Special Need Instructor office space on first and third floor of Old Main
  • Ceiling fans that could be used in the classroom to help the heating and air-conditioning work more efficiently
  • Removal of pipes and conduit from the walls
  • Adult Restrooms on each floor

 

1961 ADDITION CONCERNS

  • Will the Music Room be located in the area currently house Shawnee 4th grades?
  • Can a new classroom be made out a portion of the old locker room?
  • Will the science counter and sinks be removed from the Shawnee classrooms?
  • Will air-conditioning be added to the Learning Center, WigWam, Band/Orchestra, and classrooms?
  • Should the floor tile in the hallways and WigWam be replaced?
  • Will the classrooms of this addition be remodeled to mirror the classrooms of old main?
  • Is there a plan to replace the ceiling and carpet in the Learning Center?
  • Will the new security zones used in old main be used in this addition?
  • Will the new clock and PA system be used in this addition too?
  • Is there a timetable for painting the classrooms?

GRANT APPLICATION UPDATE

The Pioneer Grant application of $6000.00 for the Auditorium was denied. No new information was available regarding the Caterpillar Inc. grant application.
