EXAMPLES:

PRIMARY

INTERMEDIATE

Students first read through a superior example of narrative writing done by a 5th grader. Next, we went over a fishbone organizer that I had created for the example, showing how that student might have used an organizer to arrange her thinking before writing the narrative. Students then received writing prompt and used a blank fishbone to organize their own thoughts before writing their narrative.
