Training Program
An assessment will be administered to staff in August to determine needs of training. It is anticipated that some training will be needed in all strands. The inventory will determine the baseline data of staff competencies, attitudes and dispositions. The assessment will develop a school profile and an individual profile. The staff profile will be updated periodically to determine progress toward the goal of staff competency for an electronic learning community. The individual profile will assist staff in determining which strands of the training program will be of most value to them.
Training will be offered in pilot classrooms and in the Learning Center throughout the year. Trainer leaders will recruit assistants to support the training effort. It is our goal to have all staff demonstrate competencies by the end of the first semester.
Training sessions will begin on Wednesday afternoons at 3:20 (except for the first Wednesday of the month which is reserved for the monthly general staff meeting). Staff may self-select the sessions they wish to attend. However, there is an expectation that staff will attend a training session, work on demonstrating a competency, or provide training / support to other staff members.
It is suggested that staff develop competency first in Windows 95 in order to understand and appreciate the other modules. Competencies should then be developed in Word and PowerPoint or Eudora and Netscape. The rationale for grouping the training is the relatedness of the topics.
Once a staff member demonstrates competencies in the Netscape and Eudora strand they will be issued a district e-mail account (if they do not already have one) and a workstation will be designated for their e-mail account (if they do not have a laptop). At that time all general communication will be delivered through electronic media and will result in paperless communication system.
It is also the goal of the project to develop a mailing list of all staff members to foster collaboration, communication and problem solving. This will fully take effect when all staff is competent in the electronic communication strand.
