Analysis
The percentage of Jefferson students who meet state standards in reading
exceeds the percentage of students at the state and district level who
meet state standards. At Jefferson 63% of the students meet state standards
in reading while 53% at the district level and 44% at the state level meet
state standards. The percentage of Jefferson students who exceed state
standards is less than the percentage of exceeds students at both the state
and district level. Only 7% of Jefferson students exceed state standards
while 14% at the district level and 17% at the state level exceed state
standards. Only 1% of Jefferson Students fall in the academic warning category
while 4% of the district and 8% of the state students fall in the same
category. The percentage of students who fall below standards at the state,
district and building level is virtually the same (Jefferson—30%, District—29%,
State—31%).
By combining the percentage
of students in the meets/exceeds and does not meet/academic warning Jefferson
students’ performance compares favorably with the district and is better
than the state performance. 70% of Jefferson students meet or exceed state
standards while 67% of district students and 61% state-wide meet the same
criteria.
Conclusions and Recommendations
Since there is a smaller percentage of Jefferson students in the exceeds
category we need to improve our efforts with capable students so that the
percentage of exceeds students increases to double digits. We also need
to reduce the number of students who do not meet expectations by an equal
amount.
Analysis
The breakdown of performance detailing average percent of correct responses for each of the individual standards in reading shows little variation among school, district and state scores. The greatest difference among school, district and state scores is 4%. All scores clustered around 70% correct with a high of 77% correct for the school in Literary Works to a low of 63% correct for the school and state in Informational Sources.
Conclusions and Recommendations
Since we are unsure what questions on the assessment relate to each
of these areas we will make an effort during the test administration to
identify what areas are being assessed by what kinds of questions.
Analysis
An analysis of the performance by quartile reveals that more (45%) of Jefferson students scored in the third quartile than the district (35%) or state (25%) students’ performance in the same quartile. A lower percentage of Jefferson students (20%) performed in the top quartile than the district (29%) or state (32%). Only 11% of Jefferson students performed in the bottom quartile compared with 16% of district students and 22% of students state-wide. A greater percentage of Jefferson students performed in the top two quartiles (65%) than at the state (57%).
Conclusions and Recommendations
We need to concentrate on our more capable students to increase the
number of students in the top quartile.
