The percent of Jefferson
students who meet state goals in writing is greater than the percent of
students statewide who meet state goals. 59% of Jefferson students meet
state goals while 50% of students statewide meet the writing goals. The
percent of students in the academic warning category at Jefferson is 2%
compared with 9% at the state level and 7% at the district level. The percent
of students who exceed state goals is 5% at Jefferson compared with 6%
at the state level and 2% at the district level. The percent of students
who fall below state standards is identical for the school and district—34%
and 35% statewide.
By combining the two lowest and two highest categories, 64% of Jefferson
students meet or exceed state standards compared with 59% at the district
level and 56% statewide. 36% of Jefferson students fall below state standards
compared with 41% at the district level and 44% statewide.
Conclusions and Recommendations
Writing scores improved for Jefferson students. Our trend was downward—falling
below the state average. We need to continue our efforts to improve student
writing. We are especially pleased with the concentration of scores from
22 to 23 for all writing prompts.
Analysis
Average scores on the writing prompts were consistent among the school,
district and state ranging from a low of 21 to a high of 23. There is very
little difference among the scores. The school scores equal or exceed the
district and state scores for all prompts.

The sub scores for focus show that 31% of Jefferson students scored a 6 compared with 12% at the district level and 18% statewide. 91% of Jefferson students scored 4 or higher on the focus score compared to 79% at the district level and 76% statewide.

60% of Jefferson students scored 4 or higher on the organization sub score compared with 61% at the district level and 58% statewide.

increasing the number in the 4/5/6 ratings and reducing the 3 ratings.

90% of Jefferson students’ conventions of writing did not interfere with the message compared with 93% at the state and district level.
