Kbps stands for Kilobits Per Second. It is a
measure of throughput,
and is most often used in association with measuring
modem speed. Kilobits
per second should not be confused with Kilobytes
(or just "K") per second, however. Since
there are 8 bits in a byte, a modem that goes 28.8Kbps
is only capable of transmitting about 3.5K per second.
