April, 2001
Broadmoor students were very fortunate to have Mr. Dewey Halverson, a nine time Iditorod musher to visit with them for an assembly on April 30th. Mr. Halverson brought with him his dogsled, race gear, trophies, and his lead dog (who is now in retirement). He shared with students the history of the race, preparation for both the dogs and himself, many interesting racing stories (especially his 2nd place finish), and life lessons that he learned along the way.
Team 7J had two very beautiful days at Great Oaks Camping Ground. While there, the students participated in the Outdoor Education program, directed by Broadmoor teacher, Larry VonBehren. Students were educated in the areas of canoeing, archery, woodburning, constructing bird houses, making tee-shirts, nature hikes, team building activities, and navigating through the trees on a series of ropes and harnesses. The students were treated to a wonderful pig roast by Mr. Harold Masters and country music by Mr. Steve Hazlett Thursday evening. A special thank-you to all of the teachers, parents, students, and especially Mr. VonBehren for their time and effort in making this an extraordinary program!  pictures 2   pictures 3
Team 8H took a trip to the theater, that is, the Pekin High School theatre. The students were able to see the spring performance, "The Foreigner." Students and teachers alike thought that the play was very funny and the high school students did an excellent job!
The Scholastic Bowl Team competed in the regional tournament at Tremont on Tuesday, April 24th. They played two very tough matches against DeeMack and Edison and were defeated. Congratulations to the team and to their coach, Ms. Haas, on a very fine season!
8S students in Ms. Braley's Social Studies classes recently completed venn diagrams comparing WWI and WWII. In class, students worked in partners to create lists of what they already knew about each war. They they searched for similarities. As homework, they had to prepare the diagrams. Extra points were given for diagrams which were something other than traditional overlapping circles. Take a look at what creative ideas they came up with!    Ms. Braley
Mrs. Nevius had her students work with poetry in a very unique way. Check it out!
The Faculty played the 8th grade students in volleyball on the last day before spring break. The students who wished to play placed their name in a hat and teams were drawn. Four teams of students were defeated by the staff! Everyone enjoyed themselves and had a great time. Thanks to all the students and staff members who participated.
