Mrs. Roiger's 4th hour math students on Team 8H are making bridges for the American Society of Civil Engineers contest in Peoria on February 17th.  Students are working in teams of 4 to build a bridge out of index cards using only glue or tape to hold them together. The bridges are judged on esthetics, meeting specifications, load held/weight of bridge ratio, and a report.  The top two groups from the class will go on to the contest in Peoria.  The group in the photo were testing the strength of individual members from which they hope to build their bridge.
Students on Team 7J in Mrs. Chenoweth's math class have been working on a scale model project. Students are creating scale drawings of the classroom. Students are measuring the classroom and various furniture pieces, converting their measurements to scale using proportions, and then drawing a scale model of the room. Look for these wonderful projects on display during conferences at the end of February.
Student Council sponsored "Spirit Week" the week of January 21st through the 25th. Days included hat day, slipper day, crazy socks day, crazy hair day, and twin day. Lots of students (and a few teachers) participated and had lots of fun in the process!

Student Council sponsored a blood drive on Tuesday, January 22nd. Students escorted donors from the blood donor area to the canteen, gave donors a snack, and set up and took down donor stations. Out of 41 donors, 33 pints of blood were donated. Thank you to the donors and students for making the blood drive such a success!
Teachers and students remembered the life and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday. Read on for a listing of Broadmoor activities...
Mrs. Borsch and her team of artists gave the girls locker room a little makeover. It looks awesome! Thanks for a great job!
Our Broadmoor volleyball team played Rankin on January 21st. The 7th graders were victorious and the 8th graders lost. Both teams are early in their season and we are anticipating lots of great matches!
Our Broadmoor boys played two great games against DeeMack. If you haven't made it out to a boys basketball game yet this year, there's still time. Both teams are playing hard!

8S Social Studies students have been working on a World War I project in Ms. Braley's room. Each group was assigned a country and then the students read primary sources regarding the background of their country. Each group then met in Brussels, Belgium at a peace conference to try and come to a compromise and prevent WWI from happening. Were they successful? Tune in later to find out!

Carl Cannon talked with Broadmoor students on Friday, January 18th. He spoke with them about making good choices and the "unguarded moment." Mr. Cannon has spoken at Broadmoor before and as always, he left the students and the staff speechless. Thanks, Carl for an awesome assembly!
Broadmoor and Edison played Homer-Lockport Junior High School Friday night and Saturday morning, respectively. Broadmoor lost both games to the Chicago suburb school, but had a great time playing and mixing with the other team. All teams enjoyed a pizza party at Edison following the Saturday morning game.

Mrs. Nevius' Language Arts classes have been working on prepositions. They just finished an assignment in which they had to first draw a winter or Christmas picture, then they had to write an original poem. The poem had to be created so that each line started with a preposition. The classes did a great job drawing and creating poetry. Take a look!
