Broadmoor's Student Council and Mrs. Pam Nelson would like to thank all who donated at the Red Cross Blood Drive on January 25. Fifty-three units of blood were donated, which will benefit 156 patients. A big thank-you also to teachers and administrators who gave their blood so freely! The drive was a huge success.
Both 7th grade teams had a belated Christmas field trip on January 26th. The teams were supposed to go roller-skating before Christmas, but due to the snow days, the trip was postponed until January. Both teams enjoyed spending the morning at Planet X skating, playing laser tag, video games, and eating tons of snack foods! The teams then went out for lunch to various Pekin restaurants. The students had a great day and enjoyed the special day planned by their teachers.
The girls volleyball team played Midwest Central on January 25. The 7th graders were defeated and the 8th graders were victorious.
Jesse, a former Broadmoor student, visited Ms. Moran's music class to demonstrate different guitar styles to the students. Jesse works at Flores Music and gives guitar lessons there. The 7th grade music classes just finished a unit on handbells and were showing their expertise.
The boys basketball teams played Springfield Grant on January 16th. The 7th and 8th graders were both victorious. Congratulations to both teams and to Coaches Noonen and VandeSchraff.
Broadmoor will be celebrating the life and contributions of Dr. King on three different dates. Students will be enjoying an assembly with Oba William King on Thursday, January 11. Selected students from Broadmoor will have their essays read at the Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, January 13. And on Monday, January 15, students will be experiencing lessons in each of their classes on topics such as courage, empowerment, perseverance, tolerance and non-violence. Students will also be visiting web sites that describe King, his life, and his commitment to equality. A huge thank-you to Ms. Maras and Mr. Fairchild for coordinating the speaker and the activities.
The Winter Choir Concert was held on Tuesday, January 9. The students had an excellent performance under the direction of Ms. Amie Moran (and the new piano sounded awesome, too!). A huge thank-you to the choir and to all who attended.
The 7th and 8th graders have been learning how to square dance this past week in P.E. classes. Mrs. King and Mr. VandeSchraff are coordinating the lessons and the students are having lots of fun with this very American dance!
Mrs. Melloy’s language arts classes are reading The Acorn People by Ron Jones. The novel is a wonderful book that describes one young man’s experience as a camp counselor at a camp for physically challenged children. Click for pictures and samples of student journals.
Mrs. Melloy's students enjoy coming down to work with Ms. Schoenfeld's class. These students practice social skills during transitions time. Mrs. Melloy's and Ms. Schoenfeld's classes enjoyed a Christmas pizza party (after the break due to snow days).
Cole Mitzelfelt, 7th grade student at Broadmoor, created a "Scratch Art Portrait" for art class.
| Miss
Martindale and her Team 8H algebra students recently
completed a project in which they had to research a topic/person
in math on the internet and then give a 10 minute presentation of
that topic. They also had to dress up and complete an
activity/lesson with the class. A regular bunch of
"Einstein's" they turned out to be! more pictures |
