| Lights, camera, action! Students from Team 8H recently participated in a "Poetry Slam" at Pekin High School. Mrs. Nevius from Broadmoor and Mrs. Renner and Mrs. Crosby
from Pekin High hosted the event. Students were able to participate in several different categories. Everyone was very impressed with their performances! more pics slam info |
| Congratulations to the Pekin Junior High Band for "bringing home the gold!" (o.k...maybe it's actually silver with a blue first place ribbon attached). Either way, we are VERY proud of our band students and their fabulous directors: Mr. Perrilles and Mrs. Janssen. |
| Broadmoor's
art department hosted two guest artists. Students
got to meet and work with Jason Snyder and Ben Vonderheide. Both guests
are very talented at working with clay and using the pottery wheel.
The art department will be the fortunate recipient of a finished piece
from each artist to display permanently. pictures |
| Brian Miller, 8th grade student at Broadmoor, recently competed in the "Youth of the Year" program sponsored by the Boys Club. The winner received a $10,000 dollar scholarship. Brian was one of 15 finalists throughout the state and received a $1,000 scholarship. He also was able to attend the recognition ceremony in Chicago. Congratulations Brian! |
| A huge thank-you to all parents who attended student conferences and filled out the District 108 parent survey. The results are now posted and we invite our parents to look at the responses. |
| The Winter Sports Banquet was held with students from boys basketball, volleyball, cheerleading and poms. Students were honored for their athletic achievements and for all of the hours that they dedicate to Broadmoor and their sport. A HUGE thank-you goes out also to the coaches and the parents. Without their support, Broadmoor's sports programs could not be possible. |
| Five students recently represented Broadmoor at the district's Young Author's night. These five were chosen from many students who authored their own original book, including pictures. Breanna Rosenberger-Towery, Brittany West, Aubry Stapleton, Cole Mitzelfelt, and Melody McLeod all did a great job with their books. A special congratulations goes out to Cole Mitzelfelt who's book was chosen to go on to the state competition. Good luck to him! |

Broadmoor winning both. more pics |
| Congratulations to our Broadmoor wrestlers. |
| Students in 8H Connections just completed projects on Call of the Wild by Jack London. Students had a choice of a number of projects, but most chose to make a game with the novel as the theme. After developing the rules and the game, Connections students shared with the others in the class and played the games. Many "dog pieces," meat cards, and supply cards were making the way around the game boards as winners were declared, and the creators of the games began to see the pluses and minuses to their games. |
| Students in 7B language arts are completing a Colonial newspaper done in conjunction with the reading of the novel My Brother Sam is Dead. Each group has four people. In the groups, students assigned jobs and answer to their editor-in-chief. A paste up style of the paper is being done. Articles in the paper cover events in colonial times as well as events in the novel. As press time nears, editors and staff are feeling the "crunch" of producing a good paper. |

The Quality Assurance Review last month
was a very rewarding experience for
all of those involved. One
(of many) requests made at the Parent Focus Meeting
was that parents appreciated their teachers supplying their
son/daughter with bi-weekly
grade reports. This has not been a "building practice"
in the past, but BJHS teachers felt that distributing grade
reports every two weeks was a
very reasonable and worthwhile request. Starting
in March, all teams (7B, 7J, 8H, 8S) will be distributing grade
reports for each subject area
EVERY TWO WEEKS. Ask your son/daughter for them.

| Congratulations to Mr. and
Mrs. Roiger on the birth of their son! A yet to be
named baby boy (!!) was born on Sunday, March 3 at 10:19 a.m. to Brian
and Erika Roiger. He was 7 lbs. 13 oz. and 19 inches long. Mom and
baby are feeling great, just a bit tired. Dad couldn't be prouder!
More stats to come along with pictures. Mrs. Roiger is the math teacher
on Team 8H here at Broadmoor. pictures of little Kirby! |

| Broadmoor had very successful spring conferences. Parents were invited to attend a student led conference on either Thursday, Feb. 28 or Friday, March 1. Team 8S also had their Exhibition Night in conjunction with the conferences. Thanks to all parents who made the effort to come and see their child's progress! We appreciate it! |
| A big thank-you goes out to all of our Broadmoor teachers, students and parents. We had the most successful book fair ever this spring! Thanks to everyone who purchased books (I bet they came in handy with our big snow this week-end!) we were able to get over $1,125 dollars in free books for our Learning Center! Those books will be available for students to check-out soon. Thanks for an awesome fair! We know our Broadmoor students, parents and teachers love to read! |
