Broadmoor's Concert Choir put on a concert Friday, March 19 in the Broadmoor Commons. Besides selections from the entire choir, the 1st place award winners and the Treble Ensemble also were featured. Thank you to all of the members of the choir and to Mrs. Dorough for putting on such a spectacular performance.
Congratulations to Kathleen, Alicia, and Michelle for being the Young Author representatives from Broadmoor. Kathleen will be the junior high representative for District 108 and will attend the Young Authors State Conference which will be held at ISU. Congratulations to all three girls for their hard work.
Mrs. Cihla's science class is completing a unit on genetics. They recently did a lab where they made marshmallow bugs to compute dominant and recessive traits. They were required to make a mother and father bug, chart the traits, determine the probability of offspring traits, then create the offspring. We're not sure if they had more fun making the bugs, or eating them after the experiment.
The spaghetti dinner was a huge success. Almost 500 tickets were sold and people really enjoyed the Avanti's spaghetti. A HUGE thank-you to Mr. VonBehren, Mrs. Becker and all of the parents, teachers, and students that gave their time to help with this event. All proceeds go to the Outdoor Education fund.
Students in 8S language arts have completed a study of Jack London. Groups created board games based on the novel, Call of the Wild. Much effort went into the design of the board and game pieces, questions, and rules.
Athletes at Broadmoor were honored on May 11. Students who participated in volleyball, cheerleading, poms, and boys basketball were all honored by their coaches and recognized for their tremendous talents and hard work.
Dr. Nelson and Mr. Fogal started the day getting their hair dyed green. The two very good sports made a deal with the students that if they purchased 200 books from our book fair, they would dye their hair green. The students actually purchased 276 books and should be very pleased with themselves. Not only are they excited about reading, but they are really excited about Dr. Nelson and Mr. Fogal having green hair!
