Mrs. Simpson's (Mrs. Lorengo's) third and fifth hours did a science experiment called the Bernoulli Ball. The purpose was to blow air through a straw to hold a ping-pong ball in the air. Each class formed a hypothesis about their ability to complete the task and then tested their hypothesis. The classes then wrote paragraphs about the experiment.
The Fine Arts Fair was held Monday, May 19 at Broadmoor. The choir and jazz band both performed some excellent numbers. Beautiful artwork was displayed all over the commons and in the exploratory wing. A big thanks to Mrs. Borsch and Ms. Ramos for all of their hard work in planning Fine Arts Night.
The Pekin Junior High Band performed for Broadmoor on Friday, May 16th. Mr. Perrilles and Mrs. Janssen did a great job working with the students all year. We appreciate all of their hard work and enjoyed listening to the wonderful sounds of the band.

Mrs. Cihla's 7th grade science class recently finished a unit on the tropical rainforests. This unit included webquests, powerpoint productions, saving the rainforest posters, and creating a rainforest in their room. The class invites you to 'tour' the rainforest and ask them anything, they are rainforest experts!
Connections students in 8S enjoyed having Judge Tim Lucas come speak to them on May 8. They had just completed the book Deathwatch which is an exciting story about two very clever men. These characters start by hunting big horn sheep but end up hunting each other. Judge Lucas discussed the criminal law and clarified several legal issues that arose in the book.
Team 7B had two wonderful days at Great Oaks Campground on Outdoor Education. The students (and teachers) were surprised by the wonderful weather. Two days with forecasts of rain and we only had sunshine with a few clouds on Friday. The students, under the direction of Mr. VonBehren, Mr. Fogal, and Mrs. Melloy, were able to experience Outdoor Education on May 1st and 2nd. The students were able to experience archery, tee-shirt making, canoeing, hiking, building a birdhouse, the ropes (the ropes are awesome!), ice-creme making, and the initiatives. Mr. Harold Masters roasted a hog for the event (very tasty!) and Mrs. Cookie Bannon lent her wonderful stories and music to the evening hours. Smore's by the fire and a rousing game of dice ended the first evening. Hayrack rides and a lot of sunshine the next day made for a wonderful experience that our 7th graders will never forget.

The Scholastic Bowl Team finished their season at regionals. Congratulations to Mrs. Wicker and the team for a great season of play!
Students in Mrs. Wicker's first hour language arts class have been reading, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, a vivid story of a family who faces Southern racism during the Depression. Students completed their study of the novel by writing a play, designing a bulletin board, creating a Jeopardy game, and making a book jacket.
