The Broadmoor Speech Team participated in the IESA State Speech Competition on Friday November 9. All four members of the Speech Team were participating for the fist time. 8th Grade members, Danielle Strode and Zach Waldmeier performed a duet and received a 1st place. 7th Grade members Haley Gossage and Aubry Stapleton performed a regular duet and an improv duet together and received two 1st places. Aubry Stapleton also performed a monologue, and received another 1st place! The hard work that the students put into preparing for the competition really paid off! Four 1st place rankings is a great accomplishment! We are really proud of all of them!
The Learning Center would like to thank all of the teachers, students, and parents who purchased books this year from our fall book fair. Total purchases were almost $1,500 which means that Broadmoor receives $750 dollars in free books from Scholastic. The books selected for the Learning Center were previewed by a group of students and they can hardly wait to start checking them out!
Mrs. Walrath's class was very fortunate to have a guest speaker from India, Ms. Rachana Patel, speak to her social studies classes. Ms. Patel is a student teacher at Starke School and will graduate from ISU this coming May.
Mr. Fogal and Mrs. Melloy combined forces and did an interdisciplinary unit utilizing math and language skills. The students looked at the 3rd and 4th grade math objectives and then spent about two weeks writing story problems around the theme of Thanksgiving. They then made their turkey books on the computers and bound them. Mrs. Fogal's  4th grade class at Wilson and Mr. Trowbridge's 3rd grade class at Dirksen were the lucky recipients of the project. Their students got to solve the story problems! Mr. Fogal and Mrs. Melloy also provided treats for both classes. Lots of learning going on at Broadmoor!

Mrs. Borsch is at it again! She recently organized a group of artistic girls to paint a mural on the girls locker room wall. If you are female...go take a look. Boys, you'll have to be satisfied with these pictures.
