Congratulatinos to the 7th grade boys basketball team for their 1st place finish in the Pekin 108 Holiday Tournament. The boys were undefeated winning against Morton, East Peoria and Edison. The 8th graders finished the tournament with 1 win and 2 losses.

Mrs. Nevius had a fun afternoon with her students at Pekin High School. Her 8H students participated in a "Poetry Slam" with the high school students.

Jason Juchems, a student teacher from I.C.C., brought some of his prized amphibians to Mr. Noonen's class on Wednesday. Some of the animals included Red-Eyed Tree frogs, Green Tree frogs native to Illinois, White's Tree frogs, poison dart frogs from Panama and Peru, a blonde Russian Tortoise, a Yellow-Bellied Slider, and two Door mice.

It was PIE Day in Mr. Noonen's transitions class on Wednesday. The students brought pie and feasted during transitions class. Other exciting days are being planned for Mr. Noonen's transitions! (we hope that maybe they will have a CAKE Day soon!)

Broadmoor boys played their second team in the Pekin 108 Holiday Tournament on November 24. The Bruins hosted East Peoria and were victorious in both the 7th and 8th grade games. The boys started the tournament with a 7th grade win and an 8th grade loss to Morton. The boys play Edison tonight at 6:30 at Edison.

Students enjoyed seeing the play, "A Christmas Carol," at the Civic Center on November 24 and 25. All 7th graders enjoyed the play and lunch out on the 24th, and the 8th graders all went on the 25th. This play has been in production for over 25 years and is a great way to start the holiday season. Thank you to the Language Arts teachers for planning the field trips.

Student Led Conferences were held on Thursday and Friday, November 20 and 21. Students shared samples of their work from the first nine weeks with their parents, along with assessments, grade sheets, and goals for the year. Broadmoor also hosted a group of teachers and administrator from Dunlap Junior High. These teachers were very interested in learning more about student led conferences.

Mrs. Cihla's 8th grade science class is working on a two-day science lab. This lab involved five stations where they viewed pond water through microscopes and drew what they saw, observed small pieces of onion through
a microscope, drew pictures of an animal cell, interviewed types of worms on the internet, and viewed amebas and planarians under a microscope. They were required to write observations of what they learned, as well as drawings of those things found under the microscope.

The 8H language arts classes completed their poetry unit by presenting either a poem or a candy project (either poem or story) to their class. Presentations consisted of memorizing famous poems, creating original poems, or acting out the poems or stories they wrote. Students were assessed for their memorization, delivery, and use of visual aids.

A HUGE thank-you to all of the parents, teachers, and students who helped make the garage sale a big success. All proceeds from the garage and the bake sale go to the Outdoor Education fund. Thanks also to Mr. VonBehren for his efforts in organizing the day.

The newspaper staff has been working hard on the first edition of "BJHS Today." The students have been taking surveys, interviewing, researching topics, taking pictures, and doing a lot of composing and editing to make the first issue a really great one. We look forward to seeing the results of their hard work!

On Friday, November 7th, the speech team competed at Monroe School in Bartonville. There were three levels that could be achieved. A score of 3 was good, a score of 2 was above average, and a score of 1 was excellent. Scoring a three for his humorous monologue, "The First Baseball Game" was Griffin Glass. Scoring 2's for their humorous duets were Colin Abernathy and Dylan Lairson performing "Order! Order!" and Melissa Fletcher and Amber Irvin performing "Tough It, Muffit!" Scoring 1's for their humorous duet were Katie VanDyke and Devin Whitmore performing "A Fine Line." Also scoring a 1 for her humorous monologue was Joelle Schramm performing "My Best Friend." Congratulations Bruins!

Mrs. Cihla's language arts classes just finished a unit on Halloween traditions. This paper involved researching Halloween traditions and then taking a survey of teachers to see what they knew about those traditions. They also got to design a cover page for their work.

Our boys played their first basketball game of the season against Normal Kingsley. The 7th graders played hard and were victorious. The 8th graders stayed within a few points of Kingsley and then were defeated in the final quarter. Great game, both teams!

Students enjoyed the Halloween Dance on October 31st. Students were able to bring costumes to school and dress-up for the dance. Students enjoyed listening and dancing to the music. Teachers and even counselors also enjoyed dressing up and fooling the entire staff as to their identity! Thanks to Mrs. Nelson and the Student Council for planning a really fun evening.
