Attendance Changes

The changes in attendance that began in February were discussed.  Mrs Turner shared statistics and information that supported the changes.  Mrs. Spiez, who is a parent and a member of DILT attended the meeting to ask questions about the changes.  After a long discussion, a motion was made by Mr. Mendenhall to bring in Mr. Emery so that he can go over the new policy with the committee to insure that it fits within the law and district guidelines.  Mrs. Melloy seconded the motion.  The vote was unanimous in favor of the motion.  Mr. Heisel agreed to contact Mr. Emery to set up the meeting.

Discipline program training/information meeting

Ms. Maras has set up a time for a trainer from Positive Behavior Intervention Systems to come in and conduct a training session with the staff.  This training will occur at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday April 30th during a full faculty meeting.  The training is about 50 minutes long and there will be time at the end for questions.  All staff members are expected to attend.

Spring Lake Students

The deal with Spring Lake has fallen through.  They have found another district that will take their students for less money.

Truancy issues

Mr. Mendenhall shared current board policy on attendance and truancy requirements.  It was determined that Washington’s policy was possibly out of compliance with these guidelines.  It was also discussed that there is a strong possibility that Broadmoor will have our own truancy officer.  Mr. Noonen brought up a concern that state law has changed regarding truancy and Mr. Schroff agreed to investigate current law.

Building Space

Mrs. Link gathered information from each team rep about moving the computer lab.  Objections to the new plan were noted and Kelly agreed to investigate potential issues.  Kelly will also send out the specifics of the move and how she sees it impacting the building.  She will also send out a current list of pros and cons regarding the move.  The proposal will be discussed and a decision about the move will be reached at a full faculty meeting in April.

PDSA/Team organizers

Due to time constraints, this issue was tabled until next month.

Grade

Committee

Holly Brown and Kelly Link met with two teachers from Edison and Stan Fitzanko to discuss grading scale and averaging yearly grades.  Some teachers at EJHS currently use the 93-100=A scale, while BJHS uses the 90,80,70,60 scale.  The proposal from the grade committee was to standardize the scale between the two buildings.  The grade committee also proposed that end of the nine-week percentages should be used to figure the yearly average.

ISAT Schedule

Mr. Mendenhall brought up a concern about the changes we made to the ISAT schedule for this year.  He proposed that we revisit ISAT scheduling after testing to discuss the pros and cons of both schedules.

BILT Training

Training in interest based bargaining will occur for BILT members in August.  Because of this training, we will need to know who the BILT reps for each team will be for 03-04 by the end of this year.  Teams will need to decide before the next BILT meeting.

Principal Candidate Interviews

BILT will interview both candidates for Broadmoor’s principal position next week.  We have guidelines and tools that we are to use from John Emery.  If you have concerns or questions that you would like to have covered during the interviews, please communicate it with your BILT rep by this Friday afternoon.
