BILT Minutes

December 6, 2000

Members present: Jeff Nelson, Stacey Melloy, Julie Maras, Bill Heisel, Kelly Link, Holly Brown, Greg Fairchild, Pam Nelson and Jill Roepenack.

Update on Martin Luther King Day and other holidays celebrated in school:

Julie Maras contacted Dr. Kassenberra (from Bradley), but the phone call was not returned. The Pekin Public Library has a presenter for MLK Day (Oba William King). The committee discussed that Broadmoor’s celebration should be one which demonstrates cultural diversity. Jeff said he would call Dr. Baker from ISU to see if someone from the university would be able to come to Broadmoor. The committee also decided that they need more information as to which day is the district is celebrating MLK Day. Julie will give the faculty an update at the stand up meeting 12-20-00.

Concern for Closed Professional Development Days:

The following lists concerns and ideas:

  1. Re-certification concerns
  2. Look for teacher overlap in workshops
  3. Does the grant cover expenses other than conferences?
  4. Talk to Chuck Bowen about the concern (Chuck opened up portions of 20 days for professional days)
  5. Teams cover classes for pay?
  6. Widen the sub base
  7. Bring people in to do professional development

Lunch Card Issues:

The major problem is multiple losses of a card. Jeri has made up to six cards for one student. Currently, the student pays $1 for a new card. The committee brainstormed ideas and came up with the following solution which goes into effect in January:

The cost for a new card will be $5 each time. This new rule will be communicated through the January newsletter, web page, transitions, and daily announcements. The envelope in the locker also needs to be encouraged.

BILT’s role in monitoring the School Improvement Plan:

The key questions are: 1) What are the quality indicators for success? and 2) How do we gather data on those indicators?

Important data includes SAI/ISAT scores, criterion tests, and individual teacher quizzes and tests. Team members should report to their BILT representative regarding their results.

Next BILT meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 10, 2001. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
