Beginning Time 3:00 p.m. – ending time 4:15 p.m.
Mr. Heisel summarized last month’s meeting. He emphasized the need to formalize and protect BILT’s responsibility to focus on the identified priorities of parents, students, faculty and staff. BILT’s mission is to encourage and promote a dialogue between all interested parities, leading to analysis and evaluation of important issues facing the school. BILT has binding decision-making powers with the option to involve committees, consultants and others whose special expertise forward the goals of authentic communication, coordination and monitoring of the business of Broadmoor Junior High School. It was agreed to by all parties that committees will meet with BILT monthly or as needed, and report on progress toward their goals. Committees will have agenda and minutes of their meetings including the members present and the beginning and ending times of the meetings. All products produced by the committee will be submitted to BILT for discussion, analysis, and evaluation, and will be communicated to the full faculty through full faculty meetings or through the BILT minutes.
Committee Reports:
Budget –The budget committee is making progress toward designing a flow chart that will prioritize requests for budget and fundraiser monies. They are awaiting more detailed reports on team and discipline expenditures. These reports are now formatted and will be sent to Mrs. Dawson, the Budget Committee chair.
Climate Committee – The Climate Committee surveyed the faculty and staff to identify priorities and needs. Mrs. Roeder, the committee chair, presented the results of the survey and identified short term priorities as emergency lighting in areas that have no emergency lighting and need it, repair emergency lights that are not working, and replace burned out lights in instructional and team areas. Longer term goals are interior appearance of the building and more efficient use of the band room. It was suggested that Mike Erheart, the Aramark custodian supervisor, be asked to join the committee and facilitate decisions about building cleanliness.
Professional Development Committee – The Professional Development Committee developed a Request for Development Form. Ms. Braley, the Committee chair, is going to convene a meeting of the Committee and determine a purpose, and a flow chart to clarify how decisions to expend money are made.
School Improvement Planning – The full faculty will share their successes using the Venn Diagrams on Wednesday, December 12. We do need more teachers to present SIP target strategies to the faculty. Math Title II money ($4,500) is earmarked for math professional development. A consultant has been retained and will meet with math teachers half a day every month for five months. The May meeting will evaluate the process.
Quality Assurance – The suggestion was made that the BILT turn over the organization of the quality assurance visit to a committee that will be responsible to BILT. The committee will be made up of Julie Maras, Kelly Link, Andrea Addy, Greg Fairchild and Jeff Nelson. The Koality Kids process is very labor intensive, the BILT will design a process to involve the faculty and staff in the understanding and ownership of the work. The committee will generate the documents, and will meet before the next BILT meeting.
Organization Committee - Mr. Heisel, the chair of BILT, ask that the Organization Committee meet and go through the Plan-Do-Study-Act process to determine their purpose and goals. They are to identify the short-term areas of study and make recommendations in the form of an action plan to the BILT. The recommendations should be developed based on what the research tells us about best practice.
Greg up-dated the BILT on the new truancy plan. Greg and Joyce developed a new admit slip that is streamlining the process of getting students into class. Habitual tardies and truants (tardy/truant more than six times) will be sent a truancy letter. After the second letter an automatic $25 fine is issued by Officer Fitzanko.
