“Blue slips”

Joyce and Bill led a discussion on the necessity of having students fill out the blue slips when they return from an absence and why exactly they take them from class to class.  The consensus was that the slips do not give the office or the teachers any usable attendance information and that their use would be phased out immediately.  The school will make efforts to communicate with parents regarding the use of phone calls to report absences.  The web site, newsletter, and Transitions time were avenues of communication for this message.  Early dismissals and tardy slips will be handled as they always have been.

Discipline Program

Julie and Dr. Baker are investigating a discipline program based on positive reinforcement and modeling correct behavior.  The program is called PBIS.

Needs for Next year

Ø     The bathroom break procedures were revisited.

Ø     Jeff asked teams to seek volunteers to form a committee charged with investigating use of space in the building.

Ø     Bill led a discussion about getting grade report dates determined prior to the beginning of the year.  Team members expressed varying degrees of satisfaction with the reports.  Mrs. Addy said that more information is better than less.

Personnel Procedures

Ø     Jeff told BILT about the process for hiring new teachers: the central office filters applications and remits six to the building.  An interview team is formed.  Jeff encouraged teachers to offer input as part of an interview team.

Ø     Team transfer procedures are explained in the red binder.

Projected Enrollment

The projected enrollment for next year is 216 7th graders.  The committee discussed plans for assigning teachers to teams based on projections.  Jeff said he would talk to John Emery about class size and teacher placement.

Parent Contacts

The office has sent honor roll, honored student, and honored again letters to deserving students.  It has also sent at-risk letters.

Other
