Update on Martin Luther King Day :
Greg informed the committee the plan for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Greg and Julie Maras will be visiting each team to discuss the activities for the day. Since Dr. Kasimbira was not going to attend, Julie found some activities on a website called "Do Something." Virtues such as tolerance and nonviolence, empowerment, and courage were addressed in the activities.
How do we gather data to systemically evaluate our building goal 3 – 4 times a year:
The BILT committee brainstormed different ways to evaluate the building goal, and which data should be collected. The committee discussed that the evaluation of the goal should be based on the success on the SAI tests, ISAT tests, and teacher generated class averages using grade quick. Bill Heisel described how he evaluates reading comprehension using Scope magazine. Jeff said that if the faculty was introduced to one reading strategy a month, the teachers could use the strategy and report back (through class averages on grade quick or excel) the results from using the strategy. The third Wednesday of the month will be designated for the introduction of the new reading strategy. The strategy results will be due to the office by the Friday before the next strategy is introduced. Jeff said that he would use office funds to supply Scope magazine to each discipline at each grade level. If disciplines or grade levels want to purchase additional magazines, they may do so with their own funds. The first reading strategy will be introduced the third Wednesday of February (the 21st) and the results will be due by Friday, March 16, 2001.
Next BILT meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 7, 2001.
