Old Business

Discipline program

Julie shared more information about the discipline program that she and Dr. Baker have been investigating.  She provided a handout for the teams that provides a basic idea of what is involved in the program.

Building Space/

Organization

Bill shared a plan that was developed by Mr. Laskowski for rearranging the layout of the learning center area to help with student traffic flow.  All team reps have a copy of the plan.

Bill introduced the idea of moving the library or the computer lab into the band room.  Kelly agreed to investigate the costs and feasibility of moving either the library or the computer lab to the band room.  Teams need to come up with any pros or cons concerning the move.

Principle Selection

Process

Jeff shared that he had talked to Mr. Emery and Mr. Soldwedel.  Perry told him the selection of the new Principle of Broadmoor would be left up to the new Superintendent.  Jeff indicated that Perry thought the new Superintendent will most likely seek some sort of input from the BJHS staff during the hiring process.  BILT decided to write a letter to Perry expressing interest in being part of the hiring process.

Attendance Changes.

(Blue slips, absence reporting, excuse notes)

Bill and Carol shared some of the successes in the new attendance policies that were changed at the last BILT meeting.

Joyce likes the new process and says that things are running much more smoothly as a result of the changes.   Bill also shared that one of Joyce’s goals is to get the attendance out to the teachers by the end of first period.  The only thing that needs to be addressed by the teachers is to make sure and attach any excuse notes to your attendance before sending it to the office at the beginning of the day.  The committee decided to monitor the changes for another month before declaring the new system a keeper.

Schedule Changes

The issue of unequal class lengths was addressed one last time and because the only team concerned was 7J the issue was declared dead.

New Business

Spring Lake students.

Bill shared a request from Perry for input regarding students from the Spring Lake area coming back to Dist. 108.  The issue is whether or not to take the Spring Lake students at a reduced tuition cost.  If the students come back they will attend Broadmoor.  The tuition would be used to hire a social studies teacher for Broadmoor.  Heisel will e-mail Perry on Wednesday to give the recommendation to go ahead with the plan.  If there are any objections to this they need to be heard before Wednesday, March 12.

Attendance/ Truancy policy

Heisel shared the plan that Washington uses for absenteeism.  Their plan deals with both excessive unexcused and excessive excused absences.  Stan agreed to investigate board policy regarding this issue.  The committee will address changing attendance policies and absenteeism problems at the April BILT meeting.

PDSA

Team Effectiveness

ideas

Bill and Stacey shared a couple of organizers to help teams begin to more effectively plan for instruction, and for more efficient use of team meeting time.  Each team rep was given a copy of the tools and agreed to try it with their teams to see how it works.  We will review this information at the April BILT meeting.

Ø     Thanks  to Julie and Warren for their time and effort in helping BILT address some of the issues this month!
