BILT Minutes 11/7/01
BILT members present: Bill Heisel, Jill Roepenack, Pam Nelson, Steve Jans, Candace Walrath, Andrea Addy (parent), Dr. Paul Baker, Greg Fairchild, and Jeff Nelson.
- Greg discussed three items of information:
- Attendance
– Teachers still need to pay particular attention when taking attendance. Please check the absence list and call the office if you are unsure about a particular student being absent (or present for that matter) that is/is not on the list.
- Goals and Grade Distributions
– Some teachers still need to get these to Greg. If you need assistance emailing the attachments, see Greg.
- Fundraiser
– We raised approximately $26,000 this year. Broadmoor will receive half of that amount. The amount we make also depends upon all the money that actually gets collected, so we will be making between $10,000 and $13,000.
- School Improvement Plan
– Reading comprehension is still the school goal. Greg, Cathryn, Amber, and Kelly have been working on the school goal (2 days last week) and will be presenting our findings and action plan this Wednesday, November 14 to the entire faculty.
- Bill led out a discussion regarding the purpose of BILT. Each member voiced their team’s comments. The following summarizes the statements made:
BILT should:
- be the committee to set/review school policies/procedures.
- be the communication link with teams.
- be the governing body of the building
- arrange speakers and in-service activities
- not take on the trivial items in the building
- take care of ALL items/concerns in the building
- make all site-based decisions
- be a body to maintain focus
- act as a "3rd administrator"
- become a "filter" for the faculty
- report out from other committees (parents, DILT, budget, etc,…)
*Dr. Baker met with all teams on Wednesday, November 7 and summarized with four "Critical Issues":
- Communication of diverse groups (committees, faculty, etc…)
- Coordination (being the "umbrella" group/executive committee)
- Monitoring role (keeping track of agendas, following through, etc…)
- Renegotiating differences of centralized and decentralized decision-making.
After much discussion, the committee decided that the major function of BILT should be centered around focusing, prioritizing, sorting, deliberating and disseminating information from and throughout the building. This includes all committees giving a monthly report during BILT, etc…
