BILT Minutes

October 4, 2000

Members present: Holly Brown, Stacey Melloy, Kelly Link, Jill Roepenack, Pam Nelson, Bill Heisel, Cynthia Clark, Jeff Nelson, and Greg Fairchild

A discussion was held concerning the changing role of BILT. The discussion led to team members looking into other schools and how their instructional teams function. Each BILT representative was asked to research different organizations. Jeff is going to look into Middle School Association, ISU, Illinois Principal Association, and Staff Development Association. Bill is looking into DILT. Holly is inquiring the Regional Superintendent. Greg is looking into the Illinois State Board Association. The team will discuss their findings in the next meeting in November.

Kelly discussed the concern of the computer labs. The labs are being used quite often (which is a good problem), but there may be problems with the labs being over booked. With SAI requirements (including the possibility of SAI being a part of the science and social studies in the future), the lab will be in even more demand. The team discussed lab scheduling and possibly using the fundraiser money to create another computer lab.

Greg told the team that the fundraiser will generate about $13,000. BILT representatives were asked to discuss with their teams possible uses for the money. One possible use would be to use the money towards a new computer lab. Kelly figured that about ten new computers could be purchased if a "large" order were made.

A concern was brought to the attention of the committee to remind teachers that SSR needs to be observed throughout the building on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The faculty was wanting to know more about the school nurse. Jeff discussed that the nurse is actually filling in and will be with us until Methodist finds another nurse. The nurse that will be working in the building will use the Dirksen office and will be shared with Dirksen full time. At the next faculty meeting, the current nurses/s will be introduced.
