| Students
experimented with making a "round" world by manipulating a
blank sheet of paper. They were given one "practice," then
were given a blue sheet of construction paper. They had to draw in the 7
great circles and sketch in the continents. They then cut and shaped
their world into a circle. Lots of discussion ensued on the thoughts and
feelings of people living in the 1400's. |

on:
*why Columbus sailed, who for, why, the number of voyages
*the Vikings and their role in the new world and that they were here
before Columbus
- The students
then watched a CNN Newsroom segment about the Vikings (identity,
culture, location, fact that they were not warlike).
- Discussion was
concluded with another CNN segment on Iceland (geography and
climate).
