among stakeholders (PTA target: to improve communication and transition
across the grade levels and from school to school) |

Everett and Jeff Nelson introduced two charts to review: Communication and
Transitions. Members organized into three groups to brainstorm ways that the
PTA could enhance communication within the school PTA and from one school PTA
to another. The members also considered ways to promote smooth transitions
for students and families from one PTA site to another. Communication: ·
Narrow the variety of communications (e.g. website list serve,
newsletter, and e-mail)\ ·
Provide a parent advocate/mentor for families or provide a parent
support group ·
Establish displays or postings on a central marquee ·
Assignment books used to potential ·
Identify and communicate the purpose of PTA ·
Identify and communicate the uniqueness of the each building ·
Establish student goals and social adjustment goal Transitions: ·
Kids involved more in programs/activities. ·
Inter-school Open House (buddy up)/spend time in new school during
instructional time ·
Mentoring student to student ·
More time visiting in the next building ·
Parent to visit schools so as to understand layout ·
Identify fundamental operating procedure consistent for each
building. ·
Create a Chamber of Commerce for parents ·
Mentoring parent to parent ·
Provide more social events—dinners, speakers, etc. ·
