| What is "Experiencing School in the Woods?" First of all, it is not a camp-out or a camping trip. It is an opportunity for your child to improve his/her sense of confidence, self-esteem, and leadership skills; develop group unit; enhance communication skills; foster and develop respect for others; build trust in one's self and others; and, it is an opportunity to see each and every student as a unique and special person! We learn to accept each other for what he or she is. | |
| What is it? It is an unparalleled experience that each student will be talking about long after he/she has graduated from Broadmoor. Students will spend over thirty-four (two days and one night) together with fellow classmates and with the 7J and 7B staff. It will be an opportunity for each student to get to know each other in a totally new way that can only be discovered outside the traditional classroom setting. No test will ever measure the learning that will take place emotionally, socially, and psychologically. | |
| Where is it? Briefly, we will spend two days and one night at a camp called Great Oaks. The camp is located in Lacon, IL (about 10 miles north of Chillicothe). This will serve as the students' classroom for two days. It is, "school in the woods." Everyone will be involved with many activities that have the students share, create, and discover. The woods and nature serve as our "school." | |
| While at Great Oaks, we will be sleeping in clean cabins and using two lodges for meetings and activities. We will eat our meals in a large carpeted dining hall. The staff at the camp will cook most of our meals. We plan on providing our own breakfast and have a good old-fashioned cook-out. The camp has very clean restrooms and showers. | |
| The
goals of the program are as follows: *provide an environmental learning atmosphere conducive to outdoor education *provide for self-management in the areas of problem-solving, social integration, and development with one's peers *develop and demonstrate a better understanding and appreciation of nature's role in our lives and what it has to offer *provide and environment different from that of the traditional classroom in which we can truly see each other as unique individuals *simply to have some fun and build some fabulous memories |

| Payment
Guidelines: *Payment of $10.00 by the last week of each month, beginning in November (each family would have their last payment in March of $5.00) |
|
| *OR, a family may write a check for the entire amount anytime prior to the end of March | |
| **Please do not send cash. Checks can be made out to Broadmoor School. | |
| No student will be denied the opportunity to attend due to a financial burden on the family. That is why we have the above payment plan to help. | |
| In order to keep the cost down to $45.00, we will be defraying the cost in several ways. We would like to have two major aluminum can collections: December 21st and February 22nd from 5-6p.m. at Broadmoor. We need every student to save cans for this. We always have done very well with this collection. We will also sponsor at least one school dance and have a huge garage sale at school. The dates for these will be announced later. If everyone works hard on these projects, we will be able to keep the costs down! | |
