Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr.
"A Day to Remember"
|
Ms. Haas |
Students in Ms. Haas' language
class celebrated the birthday of
civil-rights champion Martin Luther
King Jr. by performing a poem for
choral speaking by Joan Nichols,
"I Have A Dream." The students also
completed a KWL organizer to recall
the facts of MLK's life.

Mrs. Stump |
On Monday, in all of my classes,
we read a play based on the historical
events surrounding Dr. King's
life. Then, we worked on some questions
related to that, which lead us
into an in-depth discussion about those
issues. I also gave the
students an extra credit option. They could
design a poster that related to
a Martin Luther King proposal: "Do
Something - Kindness and Justice
Challenge." It is due Friday if they
choose to do it and then I will
display them in the building.

Mrs. Nevius |
We, 8H, put on a play about the
demonstrations students put on to use the
same lunch counters for whites
and blacks. King was played by Cody Maile,
but the main characters were students
played by Robbie Horton and Sammy
Schoonover.

Mr. VonBehren |
-We discussed what is meant by
civil rights
-We discussed what life would
have been like in the United States during
the 60's as far as segregation
was concerned
-We discussed MLK's non-violent
approach to racial inequality.
-We then watched a video entitled
"Martin Luther King 'I have a Dream."
Students answered questions while
viewing the video.
