Reflections

The Pekin Professional Development School has been one of the best experiences that Illinois State University has offered me.  The program assured me that I choose the right career for myself.

I choose to take part of the PDS experience based on the way I learn.  My strongest learning style is the hands on approach.  The PDS internship provided me with this approach.  I have gained more confidence for being in the PDS program rather than sitting in a class and listening to someone tell you how teaching is done.

I have learned a great deal about the professionalism of teaching.  I took on many responsibilities while in the program.  There were many afternoons where I took on bus duty and got the students to the correct bus.  I also had a few days I was the teacher because my mentor teacher was ill or on personal leave which gave me the oportunity to see how I would be able to handle a class on my own.

In order to have a successful future this program has helped me become a reflective and proactive teacher.  While having the opportunity to see the growth of my students over a full year, I have also had the opportunity to build confidence and self -assurance in my teaching.  I want to thank all the people who I have had the opportunity to work with throughout the PDS program.

The students made eyeballs during indoor recess.
