The PDS experience has been more rewarding than I could ever have imagined. I am glad that I chose to be a part of this year long program. I am more confident than ever that teaching is the career for me. The techniques and strategies that I have learned will be a huge asset to me in a future teaching position.
I have also been able to collaborate with other professionals. This has allowed me to learn exactly what it means to be a professional. I am confident that if it were not for this year long experience I would not have this knowledge.
I was able to work not only with fellow teachers and staff, but the parents as well. I was able to talk with them at conferences and having this experience will no doubt put my mind at ease for the next conferences which I would lead.
It was also quite an experience, especially in kindergarten to see the growth of the students’ knowledge and abilities throughout the year. Many came in not even knowing the letters in the alphabet and can now read kindergarten books on their own and write notes to each other or their families. It is so exciting to think that I was a part of the amazing learning that took place.
Although I am looking forward to a teaching career of my very own, a part of me is sad to leave behind the students that I have grown to know and care for. I am glad; however, that I will have the opportunity to experience this joy over and over again in my future teaching career.
