In teaching, students and the relationships one builds with those students are two of the most important components. Every student that walks into the classroom has a unique family life, culture, and economic status. These differences affect every student and cause each student to have unique needs. Within teaching, these factors need to be addressed. The environment of the classroom should be welcoming and safe for each student. By creating this type of classroom environment, each student is given the opportunity to succeed.
In order to meet the students' needs many different types of teaching and assessment must be used. Some lessons should be teacher led while others should be cooperative learning/student discovering. Assessment should directly reflect the teaching that has taken place. One must assess a student on the way in which they were taught. Formal and informal assessment must follow the appropriate lessons. Formal assessment does not have to be given in a test form. As mentioned above, each student is unique; therefore it is important to use different forms of assessment to meet those students' needs.
Furthermore, it is vital to be creative and flexible. The lessons that are taught need to be varied in instruction and routine. By allowing creativity in the lessons, students are able to be expressive and open. In addition to being creative, it is important to remain flexible in teaching. Situations occur in which one must be able to be flexible in their lessons, teaching, and plans in order to accommodate each student’s individual needs.
