Educational Philosophy

“It must be remembered that the purpose of education is not to fill the minds of students with facts… it is to teach them to think, if that is possible, and always to think for themselves.”

            –Robert Hutchins

With Mrs. Finneran, my mentor for second grade.

This year I was asked by someone how I wish my students to remember me. I feel that by answering this question I can give a vision to my philosophy. When students look back on their school year with me, I would like them to remember me in a positive light. One impact I hope to have had on my students is that, while in my classroom, they learned many things in fun and interesting ways.  I also want them to remember me as someone they could turn to and feel safe with, should they ever need me. I want them to remember that I was fair and consistent. I would definitely hope to be remembered as a teacher who motivated and inspired, having reinforced them to never give up. Overall, when a student remembers me, I hope it brings a smile to their face.
