"The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you."

              - B.B. King

Mrs. Muren, our Literacy Leader at C.B. Smith, and I on my last day at Smith. She has been a wonderful resource and role-model.

As this year comes to a close, it not only brings exciting thoughts of the future but also sad thoughts of leaving my new family. Reflecting back to when my senior year came near, I knew that my experiences during clinicals and student teaching would be crucial to my success as an educator.  As an independent student, I decided to explore the alternate option of a PDS program. After speaking with people that were involved with the program from different angles, and finding their high enthusiasm for the program, I felt confident to pursue this option. I visited several PDS locations until I found that District 108 was the best fit for me. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to participate in the PDS program.

The district I have worked with has been so inviting and supportive. I have truly seen what it means to collaborate and to have a wealth of resources. I have been able to have three times the amount of experience in the classroom compared to the traditional setting. I have enjoyed the chance to work at a second grade, sixth grade, and a junior high level. Through these experiences I have come to know myself as an educator. When I began this program, I confidently met each challenge and felt that I was catching on quickly. Though my mentor assured me I was doing a fantastic job, the impact of full responsibility for the classroom surprised me. As I began to see all the small details that a teacher must attend to, my reverence for planning and preparation grew over night! Although this transition was a challenge, I was able to step up to the plate. In each building I was placed, I have made long-lasting professional relationships. I feel my professional persona has grown. I have practiced being flexible, planning ahead, and classroom management while furthering my creativity skills. I can confidently say that I will make an outstanding teacher and have a positive impact on my students’ lives.

In closing I would like to say that without my liason Mrs. Lange and my mentor Mrs. Finneran, this priceless experience would not have been possible. They have opened my eyes to the many talents I have as an educator. Thank you both for believing in me and showing me what an outstanding teacher I am.

To my family, thank you for all the loving support in returning to school and pursuing my dream.

Last, but certainly not least, a special thanks to my fellow interns and all those who have made the PDS program possible.
