My name is Savannah Sherrill. I am from Wauconda, Illinois, a small suburb of Chicago. I grew up in a very close immediate and extended family. In 2003, I became the 8th person in my family to graduate from Wauconda Community High School. Then, in 2007, I became the very first person on my mom’s side of the family to graduate from college. I graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education.
I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I spent a lot of time with my younger brother and my little cousins teaching them everything I was learning in school. I would gather all the kids together at the kitchen table for science experiments and math lessons.
For the past year, I have been an intern in the Pekin Professional Development School. This experience has confirmed my decision to teach for the rest of my life. I have loved every moment of this experience and I know that education is where I belong.
