As an educator, I feel it is my responsibility to instill a motivation in my students to become life-long learners. I want to teach my students how to use strategies to be successful in a free-flowing, creative environment. I believe that the environment of the classroom enhances the learning. The environment creates a safe, comfortable sense of trust for the students where they feel like they can learn openly. An effective educator knows that the classroom can be used to improve learning, as well as create a freedom for learning and respect for others. I will build respect in my classroom by estabilishing rules, classroom procedures, a and clear classroom management plan with expectation and consequences, all of which created by myself and the students. A student spends more time with their teacher than they do with their family, so their teacher should be a key person of respect in their life. In consideration to this frame of mind, I must encourage the FISH! philosophy to my students.
The FISH! philosophy is a tool used in the classroom to create a creative, inspriational, and inventive environment. FISH! builds trust, self-esteem, and a sense of comfortability in the classroom between teacher and student and student and student by using four simple practices - Be There, Choose Your Attitude, Make Their Day, and Play. By introducing these practices in my classroom and inspiring my students to use them every day, I will be able to better impact the students learning.
