my kindergarten class

at C. B. Smith Elementary School

I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Mrs. Rita Durr. I helped her set up her classroom before school started and attended the district and building retreats. By having the opportunity to take part in the retreats, I was able to see everything that goes on before the school year really takes off. She took me under her wing and showed me what it is to truly be a successful kindergarten teacher. I have found that kindergarten is a whole other world compared to other grades. I loved every moment.

After having the wee-ones, I made the jump up to Edison Junior High School. I have always had a love for math; here I was able to express that love and engage junior high students in enthusiastic math projects. I have found that junior high is the point where students decided if they they going to be mathmatitions or completely drop math as a part of their life. I showed them through work that we did that no matter what they thought before; math will always be a part of their life.

Next, I went on to Wilson Intermediate School where I observed in a fourth grade class until winter break.

I returned to Mrs. Durr's kindergarten class in the Spring for my formal student teaching. She and I agreed it would be in my best interest for me to take advantage of the opportunity to do a dual placement. After eight weeks in the kindergarten classroom, I moved down the hall where the big kids are. I started my adventure/voyage with third graders.

In third grade I learned so much. The way to teach third grade verses kindergarten is very different. The students are a bit older and and a bit more mature. When I first entered the classroom they all seemed so much older. After a few days, I realized that they are also still very young and hungry to learn.

Everywhere I went to teach there was so much to learn from my mentors and the children. From this experience, I have been able to take away so much. I only hope that I have touched the lives of the individuals I have worked with as much as they have mine.
