"Tell me and I'll forget;

Show me and I may remember;

Involve me and I'll understand."

 ~ Chinese Proverb

Throughout student teaching, I have developed my own philosophy of education. I have recognized the things that are important to me. I believe that every child is capable of learning and as a teacher, I must do everything I can to help each child be successful. Therefore, I must start by thinking of each child as a unique individual from the very first day of school. No two children are exactly the same and as an effective educator, I must understand each child and the way that they learn best. I recognize the importance of understanding my student's abilities, strengths, and learning styles. If I understand each child and the way they learn, I can create activities that will best suit my students.

I believe it is important for me to model enthusiasm through my delivery, dress, and demeanor every day. Modeling enthusiasm will help my students get excited too. I know that my students felt my joy and enthusiasm when they asked me if I ever stop smiling. My students could tell that I loved working with them.

Many students benefit from being active learners and manipulating objects, therefore I believe it is important to create hands-on activities. Taking an active approach to learning can help some students recall information at a later time because they are able to associate information with a particular learning experience.

I have come to realize that a teacher must be flexible! Lessons rarely follow their intended paths and teachers need to be ready to follow the new direction. In order to be flexible, I think a teacher must also be reflective. Educators must be able to reflect during a lesson and be able to change the plans at any moment to best meet the needs of the students.

I hope to inspire and motivate every child to become a life-long learner!
