My educational philosophy is to be proactive not reactive. To be an effective educator it's important to be prepared and flexible in our teaching. When I make lesson plans I try to anticipate any problem areas within the lesson, by thinking ahead I am able to modify my lesson in any way. I think it's important to have your classroom prepared each day for the students to begin learning. I will have morning work available for the students to start on each day to get the morning off to a productive start.
The environment that the students learn in is also important. My classroom will have a lot of inspirational and academic posters to help students in their learning. I will also have procedures and rules posted so all student know what is expected of them. I believe it is essential to have the students take part in developing the rules for the classroom. Involving the students in creating rules gives them a sense of ownership within the classroom.
In the PDS program we followed the "Fish" philosophy. The "Fish" philosophy encourages individuals to choose a positive attitude, make a child's day, play with them, and be there for all students. This philosophy is wonderful for educators to follow. We know that all children are capable of learning; it's up to us as educators to light the candle within each child and make their journey through school a positive, memorable experience. Our goal as an effective teacher is to make each individual a life long learner.
