Educational Philosophy

As an educator, I believe it is my job to encourage and support students to develop and maintain a love for learning.  I truly believe that every child has the capablity of learning, and it is my duty as a teacher to take each student's potential, and stretch it as far as possible!  Although students will come from very diverse backgrounds, and with very different experiences, I know that every child should be given the opportunity to succeed within a comfortable and positive learning environment.  I hope to promote the success of every student by being a stable figure that supports children emotionally, socially, and academically.

Throughout my journey of becoming a teacher, I have continued to build and develop my educational philosophy.  However, my experience in the Professional Development School has opened my eyes to the FISH philosophy, an idea that began at a fish market to excite and inspire workers and guests.  The four core principles, "Choose Your Attitude," "Be There," "Make Their Day," and "Play," are all key ideas that I hope to incorporate in my classroom.  I absolutely believe that attitude is everything, and I hope to model a positive, enthusiastic spirit for my students each and every day.

My main priority in education is to make students feel that they are capable of learning.  I want to instill a confidence in my students, providing strategies and learning opportunities that encourage them to take risks and support one another.  I know that my philosophy will continue to expand and develop as I enter the world of teaching, but I feel that this foundation will guide my instruction and professionalism as I begin this rewarding career.

"Teaching kids to count is fine, but teaching them what counts is best." - Bob Talbert
