In 1830 Abraham Lincoln came to Illinois. He was 21 years old when his family moved. The Lincoln’s heard there was good soil in Illinois. They wanted to farm. A year later Abraham Lincoln moved on his own to New Salem, Illinois, where he worked |
When Abraham Lincoln was running for president a little girl named Grace Bedell wrote him a letter and told him to grow a beard. When Lincoln received her letter he laughed, but as you can see he took her advice.

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Hardville, Kentucky. He lived in a log cabin with his family. Our picture shows his mother pushing him in a stroller. |
John Wilkes Booth shot Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865. John Wilks Booth shot him because he freed the slaves. Abraham Lincoln thought that slaves should be freed but John Booth disagreed. |
When Abraham Lincoln was a store clerk he found out that a woman over paid him by just a few cents. He walked a long time just to return a few cents. He once told a young man who wanted to be a lawyer to be honest. It was clear to some of his political supporters that he was very honest and carried on his presidential campaign in 1860. This is how Lincoln became known as “Honest Abe”. |

On April 15, 1865 Abram Lincoln was shot at Fords Theater. He was shot by John Wilkes Booth. He was buried at Oakridge Cemetery in Springfield. He was buried there because that is where he spent most of his life. |
Lincoln worked for $.25 a day as a young boy. He walked for a miles to borrow a book. Once a book he borrowed got wet and he worked to replace it. When he was 9 years old his mother died. He didn’t have a middle name. |
