Band, Mr.
Perrilles/Mrs. Janssen
March with the band in parades, perform at concerts,
contests, and on tour.
Time: three rehersals per week from 7:00am to 7:50am.
One sectional per week and performances throughout
the year.

Basketball, Mr. Jerry Norman/Mr. Josh R. Norman
A 7th and 8th grade team of 12-15 players competing
against area teams.
Time: A possibility of 22 games, and practices
according to the coach's schedule.

Track, Mr. J. Norman/ J.R. Norman
Students compete in 13 track and field events with
other area schools.
Time: Track begins its 12-14 meet season in March
and ends with the state track meet in mid May. Practices
are held 6 days a week.

Cheerleading,
Mrs. Jensen
Participates in a variety of workshops at Illinois
State University and the Pekin Park District. Also,
marches in the Pekin Marigold Festival Parade, PCHS
Homecoming Parade, and cheers at basketball games.
Time: Practice 2-3 times per week. Cheer at up
to 22 basketball games.

Connection, Miss Hallam
Edison students visit a C.B. Smith student (K-3)
in need of a friend.
Time: Approximately 1/2 hour a week.

Edison
Singers, Miss Hays
Edison Singers is a 7th and 8th grade mixed choir
that is made up of Edison students who wish to audition
at the end of September. Choir meets during
study hall on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week.
Edison Singers sing approximately 5 or more concerts
per school year and participate in the Edison Fine
Arts Fair that takes place in the spring. The
choir also performs many school assemblies, sings
at athletic events, sings at feeder schools in Pekin,
Pekin Mall, P.T.O. meetings, Schramm School, ADK meetings,
Pekin Park District, Miller Sr. Citizens center, etc......Edison
Singers also make a professional recording at Frontier
Recording Studio in East Peoria each year. There
is a $10 participation fee and choir shirt cost.
Edison Singers finish up sometime in late April/early
May. Edison
Singers is directed by Diana L. Hays.

Fine
Arts Fair, Miss Hays/Miss Keck/Miss Brucker/Mr. Perrilles/
Mrs. Jannsen
Fine arts include dance, music, theater, and art.
Dance, music and theater are the performing arts and
art is a visual art. Each spring at Edison Jr.
High School, a fine arts fair is scheduled for all
Edison students to participate in and attend.
An art exhibit is on display in the learning center
and a concert of jazz band, orchestra, choir, talent
show, and skits performed by the speech club,
are presented to the community. The fine arts
fair is sponsored by Miss Hays, Ms. Keck, Miss Brucker,
Mr. Koons, and Mr. Perrilles.
Time: First week in May

Honor
Roll
This program has been established to reward students
for their hard work and academic achievement. Students
who earn honors (3.5) or high honors (3.75) will have
the opportunity to participate in special school sponsored
activities throughout the year. Activities including
field trips to museums, amusement parks, sporting
events, and skiing.
Time: Some weekends and school days

Newspaper
Staff (Panther Tracks), Mrs. Barfield
Students produce a monthly newspaper.
Time: The newspaper staff will meet during study
hall and after school. Students will interview staff
and students. This activity begins in early October.

Destination
Imagination
Each student is placed on a team of six members
that take part in spontaneous practice and work on
a selected problem.
Time: Activities begin in September. One practice
per week of at least thirty minutes after school and
regularly scheduled meetings with team members and
coaches.

Pom
Pon Squad, Mrs. Maloney/Mrs. Norman
Perform dance routines, choreographed and taught
by pom pon members themselves, at home games, some
assemblies, and other special events.
Time: Perform dance routine at all home basketball
games, assemblies, and practice 3 times per week.

Scholastic
Bowl, Mrs. Ward
Interschool meets between teams of 5 playerscompete
to answer questions in math, science, literature,
grammar, arts, social studies, current events, sports,
and miscellaneous information.
Time: Practice twice a week. Approximately 12 matches
and three tournaments. Scholastic Bowl begins in November.

School Dances
Students have the opportunity to particiapte in
numerous dances at Edison throughout the school year.
Dances offer an opportunity for students to socialize
with friends and have fun. All dances are held in
the Red Gym with music provided by a disc jockey.
Time: 3-5pm, admission is $2.

Speech
Club, Miss Brucker
Students perform 4-10 minutes of serious or humorous
monologues or skits. The acting may also include chorale
reading.
Time: Once per week after school starting in October.

Spelling
Bee, Language Arts Teachers
Students compete to see who is the best speller
in the school. Each language arts class will send
their first and second place spellers to the school
spelling bee. First and second will then go onto the
district competiton.

TEAM
EDISON, Mrs. Curry
Instead of student council this year, TEAM Edison
was formed. The purpose of this team will be to work
together with all students to promote Teamwork, Student
Involvement, School Spirit, Patriotism, Parental Involvement,
and Volunteerism/Community Service. TEAM members will
be contacting other students to join them on committees
for the Christmas Dance, door decorating contest,
Christmas greetings, and community service projects.

to help them grade papers, put up bulletin boards,
and prepare activities.

Compete in volleyball matches with area schools.
Time: Daily practices Monday - Saturday and a 14-18
game season

Yearbook,
Mrs. Huey
Students alphabetize photos, identify people in
group shots, write announcement posters, and talk
to classes about buying yearbooks.
Time: After school starting in January for approximately
½ hours serveral nights a week.

Young
Authors
Students compose their own book. The students do
all their own writing, revising, and illustrating.
The books are submitted to the District 108 Young
Authors Exhibit.
